Anxiety is a common emotion characterized as nervousness, worry, and uneasiness. Individuals with anxiety generally feel threatened and may feel like he/she cannot deal with everyday life. When an individual feels anxious without being able to move past the stress caused by anxiety, the condition has become a disorder. Such a disorder can have a long-term affect on the individual’s life. Treatment can help and it’s recommended to start as soon as anxiety disorder symptoms are present.
Many adolescents dealing with anxiety try to overcome it through self-medication with things like drugs and alcohol. Engaging in this type of behavior make managing anxiety (and other behavior/mental health problems) even more challenging. Effective management of anxiety for youths can help minimize the impact they have later in life.
